High Speed Data Throughput for CompactPCI-based Networks
This project intended to expand the network bandwidth throughput for a customer based on conventional three-layered network architecture with data backups for each layer. Using 10GbE interconnection, this solution upgrades the throughput capability of the entire network to 10GbE level and enables the access layer to provide Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) connection to all the desktops, eliminating the need for another bandwidth expansion for the next 3-5 years.
This solution used a self-developed CompactPCI architecture of products instead of conventional CompactPCI single boards. The solution used an Advantech Computer on Module (COM) on the carrier board to reduce product development costs. It used 10GbE Ethernet interface and multiple channels to upgrade to GbE network ports.
Advantech COM Express modules met the customer’s demand for a compact size solution with flexible options. The SOM-5992 Computer on Module uses Intel Xeon processor that satisfies customer requirements for server-grade applications and it provides 32 x PCIe expansion ports, which in combination with the customer’s self-developed port expansion chip, provided 24/48 GbE ports for end-use.
